Gallant 5 to Watch this week
Huddersfield Giants epitomised the fighting spirit of our 5 to Watch this weekend. The rugby league side came so close to an upset against St Helens before falling 14-6.
Despite some misplaced faith in Lewis Hamilton in Australia at least his teammate and fellow Brit Jenson Button drove to victory in the Grand Prix for McLaren.
Button may not be the also-ran many expected this season after all.
To recap – Leeds were beaten by Gloucester in the Guinness Premiership and Sir Chris Hoy let us down by going out in the quarter finals of the World Cycling Championships in Denmark.
Finally, Gianfranco Zola looks on the brink of quitting West Ham after the latest defeat at home to Stoke.
Worry not – there’s always next week.

5 To Watch Takes An Early Battering
Our 5 to watch this weekend takes an early battering
Sentiment hardly ever pays dividends in sport. Occasionally there will be the perfect synergy of a story and event that somehow cannot fail – Aldaniti and jockey Bob Champion at the 1981 Grand National – but most often than not we come a cropper.
So it was with the early stages of out 5 to Watch this weekend.
Sentiment made me back Air Chris Hoy in the sprint at the World Cycling Championships in Denmark. Just shows you what I know. He lost in the quarter-finals.
Then I let my heart rule my head when I thought West Ham would beat Stoke. It was 1-0 but Stoke came out on top to plunge Gianfranco Zola’s team deeper into relegation trouble, especially since Hull beat Fulham.
Finally, Leeds couldn’t continue their Guinness Premiership run and fell 19-0 against Gloucester.
But are we down?
Lewis Hamilton may step forward to win the Australian Grand Prix but he faces a fight against the Red Bulls of Sebastian Vetter and Mark Webber.
Incidentally, the funniest story of the weekend has to be Michael Schumacher complaining of Fernando Alonso and Hamilton blocking him on the track during his qualifying laps. Pot, kettle, black?
We still have the mighty Huddersfield Giants on Sunday to look forward to against St Helens.
