The 5 to Watch - This Weekend



There are a lot of little things that could add up to meaningful ones this weekend.


In Formula One, Lewis Hamilton and the McLarens are going well but he’s in bother with the Australian police off the track.


David Moyes and Roberto Mancini will be hoping life is a little quieter after their scrap – alleged – in midweek and Gianfranco Zola will be praying that the slagging off his players got from one of the bosses at West Ham will motivate not deflate his men.


• First up is our continued faith in Lewis Hamilton. Let’s go for the baby-faced pilot to race to his first win of the season in Australia on Sunday.


• I’d also like to see Zola take his West Ham misfits and turn Stoke over at Upton Park. Stoke are no mugs but the flair and honesty of Zola, I hope, will inspire the Eastenders for 90 minutes.


• In the Guinness Premiership, I’d love to see Leeds win again at Gloucester and after the West Country team’s efforts in the LV Cup last week they might just sneak it. Leeds to win again.


• The World Cycling Championships are going on in Denmark and Great Britain are facing a number of challenges. Sir Chris Hoy has already won the Keirin and tackles the men’s sprint over the weekend. Sentiment compels me to back him for another world title.


• The world of rugby league tends to swap its Super League titles between the top four of Leeds, St Helens, Bradford and Wigan but that’s changed recently and other teams are closing the gap on the big boys. Huddersfield are doing well and they take on St Helens on Sunday. I am going to go for the Giants to topple the Saints on Sunday.
