A new low, even for British tennis
It’s easy to lose your temper and point an accusing finger when something goes so horribly wrong it’s embarrassing.
But John Lloyd, the national coaches and the whole infrastructure of British tennis should hang its collective head in shame today after the 3-2 Davis Cup defeat at the hands of Lithuania.
Do we care?
Hang on. Do we care if English rugby is a laughing stock, do we care that England’s football team hasn’t won the World Cup in 50 years?
You bet your life we do.
It’s the same with tennis. If Andy Murray’s mum has the wherewithal to oversee her son’s progress to world number 2 then surely a bunch of tennis administrative professionals with a £30 million budget – THIRTY MILLION POUNDES - can engineer two of three other players into the top 50.
Apparently not.
Lithuanian tennis has a budget of £100,000 and the bloke who beat our bloke for the winning rubber is ranked over 500 in the world.
The mind boggles.
